Designing an Operating Manual for a $12,000 Racing Bike

This bike by Trek needed a great manual. It was a radical design that placed most of the cables inside the frame tubes. It was going to be a complex ownership experience.

In working with the engineering and marketing groups, a new brand instructional style was created using red, black and gray tones. A diagram approach with exploded views centered on areas of the bike that were challenging to understand.

This bike rack company had older instructions that were struggling with CAD-based drawings and photographs. A ground up approach was used where the best way to create new assembly instructions was to experience the product first hand. And note any frustrating steps or missing guidance. A simple black and white approach was devised that was primarily isometric to allow for exploded views of the product as it was assembled.
